Many affordable housing efforts focus on temporary housing, transitional housing or rental units. AHC is committed to home ownership because we believe that owning a home allows a family not only to build equity, but offers a path to financial stability and independence. Further, there are numerous benefits to the community if we can encourage high character work force families to both live and work in our community. This stability and independence is helpful not only in the years when children are home, but will be especially helpful when these homeowners reach retirement age.

Poverty among the elderly in our society is exacerbated as rental rates continue to climb when people are surviving on a fixed income. Owning a home breaks the cycle of poverty among the elderly, which is especially relevant as lifespan continues to increase. Our criteria of one of the homeowners working in North Fulton County is because we know that living close to one's workplace offers advantages of reduced gasoline and car maintenance expenses, and improved quality of life with a reduction of stress and additional quality of time spent with family. Focusing our efforts on the 50-80% of median group is an income group that no one else in our community is serving in the non-profit housing segment.
